Types of Liquor Licenses
Retail "Class A" Intoxicating Liquor License
$500.00 fee
May sell intoxicating liquor to consumers only in original packages for off-premise consumption. They may offer taste samples of wine on premises. Examples: Grocery/Liquor Store.
Retail Class "A" Beer License
$100.00 fee
Class "A" retailers may sell beer to consumers in any quantity in original packages for off-premise consumption only. They may offer taste samples of beer on premises. Examples: Grocery/Liquor Store
Retail "Class B" Intoxicating Liquor License
$500.00 fee
May sell intoxicating liquor to consumers for on-premise consumption. May sell for off-premise consumption in quantities not exceeding four liters. Example: Tavern/Restaurant
Retail Class "B" Beer License
$100.00 fee
Class "B" retailers may sell beer to consumers for on-premise or off-premise consumption. Example: Tavern/Restaurant
Picnic License aka Temporary Class "B" Beer License
$10.00 fee
May sell Fermented beverages to consumers at a picnic or similar gathering during a limited duration. Such licenses may only be issued to bona fide clubs, lodges, societies, and churches which have been in existence for at least six months, or to veteran's organizations and fair associations.
Picnic License aka Temporary "Class B" Wine License
$10.00 fee
May sell wine to consumers at a picnic or similar gathering during a limited duration. Such licenses may only be issued to bona fide clubs, lodges, societies, and churches which have been in existence for at least six months, or to veteran's organizations and fair associations.
Reserve "Class B" Intoxicating Liquor License
$500.00 fee
Additional one-time fee of $10,000 required. "Under Wis. Stats. § 125.51(4)(br), any Retail “Class B” Intoxicating Liquor License that was not granted or issued by the City on or before December 1, 1997 is a Reserve “Class B” Intoxicating Liquor License. The Reserve License is the same as the regular license except that those applying for such a license are required to pay an additional one-time issuance fee of $10,000.00 and a 21-Day fund verification period. This requirement is waived for a bona fide club or lodge that has been situated and incorporated in the state for at least six years. To help mitigate the additional cost of the Reserve “Class B” Intoxicating Liquor License, an economic development grant of $10,000 is available for those license holders who consistently operate in compliance with the standards of the license. Compliance to license operating standards is determined by the City Clerk. When the number of allotted Retail "Class B" licenses issued to the City run out, then the Reserve "Class B" license will be issued.
Retail "Class C"
$100.00 fee
May sell wine by the glass or in an opened original container for consumption on the premises where sold. Such licenses may only be issued for restaurants if the sale of alcohol beverages accounts for less than 50% of the gross receipts. It may not be issued to foreign corporations or foreign LLC's.
